Social Responsibility

Major contributors to our society’s infrastructure

Since its foundation (during the Cretan State era-1900), the Greek Postal Savings Bank played an important role in developing the Idea of Saving Up, a process that had a deep impact among the middle and lower socio-economical class of the Greek population.

At the same time, the Greek Postal Savings Bank was the driving force behind the activation an accumulation of people’s savings, which funded the important projects that catapulted the country’s development.

Our touchstones are continual adaptation to modern day demands, the preservation of our historical ideals and the service of the Greek individual and society.

Loan funding for commonweal projects like water supply (Marathon Lake), road making (funded the road projects during the Inter-War years) as well as loans for the Piraeus Port Organization and Local Government Organizations, as well as aid and relief to Greek citizens in need, such as earthquake victims, all demonstrate the Greek Postal Savings Bank’s crucial role in the devolpment of Modern Greece.

According to the law that established the Greek Postal Savings Bank as a Bank S.A. (L. 3.082/2002), a percentage of the Organization’s yearly net profit, reaching 3%, is dedicated to commonweal projects. Significant amounts have been allocated to the Foundation of the Hellenic World, to the improvement of medical infrastructure for Hospitals, to Municipalities for supporting programmes for the elderly, to Sporting and Cultural Clubs, and to religious organizations all over Greece for the development and preservation of Greek cultural tradition and heritage.

The Greek Postal Savings Bank has marshalled all of its experience and resources to compete in the 21st century, while maintaning its important role in contributing to the Greek economy and social fabric.
